Dell To Manufacture Laptops In India

Dell today dedicated its computer factory at Sriperumbudur to the people and announced expansion of its manufacturing capacity in India, to commence production of laptop computers built for Indian customers, besides the current manufacture of desktops.

Dell has introduced an easy-to-use, efficient and affordable laptop computer, the Dell 500, a product designed especially for customers in emerging countries such as India and China. Developed with the aim of delivering affordable mobility to SMEs, education and the public sector, the Dell 500 laptop computer is said to offer enhanced mobile computing in configurations starting at Rs 24,500.

The Dell 500 offers the choice of pre-loaded Microsoft Windows XP Home or Ubuntu Linux full application suite, onsite next-business-day warranty in about 600+ cities and features such as a 8-in-1 card reader and direct multi media playback buttons. The Dell 500 laptop offers easy connectivity and enhanced mobility with a host of wireless access options.

Speaking at the dedication event, chief minister Karunanidhi congratulated Dell and the people of the state of Tamil Nadu. �Our state is quickly emerging as a manufacturing powerhouse, and I am pleased to see the rapid growth and expansion by companies such as Dell. Dell’s new Dell XPS M-1330 laptop is powered by 1.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5450 with 2-MB L2 Cache, 677 MHz FSB featuring Mobile Intel 965GM Express Santa Rosa chipset motherboard, 2-GB DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM (max 4-GB in 2 slots), 160-GB 5400 rpm SATA hard drive and a 8X DVD Super Multi Double layer (8.5 GB) DVD Writer.

Weighing 1.79 kgs the Dell XPS M-1330 Laptop PC is build using Magnesium Alloy casting and it features 13.3-inch (33.7 cm) Ultrasharp Widescreen WXGA TFT display with TrueLife technology powered by Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator GMA X3100 graphics chipset with 128 MB shared memory built-in into Intel 965GM mainboard offering upto 1280 x 800 pixels screen resolution with 16.7 million colors.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium edition preinstalled Dell XPS M-1330 Laptop offers Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 Network 802.11a/g/n Dell Mini Card for wireless LAN networking and it also features integrated 10/100 Gigabit Ethernet LAN controller, built-in 56kbps V.92 Fax/Modem, 4x USB 2.0 ports, IEEE 1394, VGA video output & S-Video and integrated stereo speakers.

An optional Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth module for Dell XPS M-1330 laptop allows attaching wireless mice, keyboards, PDAs and other Bluetooth-enabled devices without the hassle of cords and cables.

The Dell XPS M-1330 Laptop PC also features integrated 2.0 MP webcam, internal stereo microphone and an integrated 8-in-1 removable memory card reader supporting SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro, XD, Mini SD, MS Duo and MS Pro Duo media cards. The laptop is available in Crimson Red or Tuxedo Black colors.

Dell XPS M-1330 laptop also features standard Wi-Fi Catcher for connecting to a Wi-Fi hotspot and it is done without powering up your notebook. The notebook also offers standard Hyperband Multi-Antenna which allow strong and clear wireless reception.

The Dell XPS M-1330 laptop also offers a standard Consumer Infrared port which allows navigate through music, videos, photos remotely with the travel remote control located in the express card slot.

Dell To Launch Ultra Cheap, Ultra Portable Mini Vostro Laptop

Less than one year after Asus start selling its EEE PC laptop, Dell has decided to throw the proverbial gauntlet and enter the UCUP (Ultra Cheap, Ultra Portable) laptop arena with a yet-to-be-named laptop which looks like a mini version of the Inspiron 1525 (see Picture below).

Although a late entrant (after HP, Asus, Acer, MSI and many others), the arrival of Dell legitimises one of the fastest growing segments in the tech industry.

The laptop, which is not unlike the HP 2133, will be available in a number of colours and has three USB ports as well as the usual array of features that you can expect from a Ultra Cheap, Ultra Portable laptop: card reader, VGA Out, Ethernet and a glossy shell.

Not much was disclosed as to what was inside but one can expect Dell to adopt Intel's Diamondville architecture with an Atom processor, 1GB worth of memory and a traditional hard disk drive as Windows XP Home onboard (the keyboard has a Window key on the left).

Dell's device will almost certainly be launched at next's week Computex event in Taiwan and will almost certainly be one of the main attractions.

Dell Goes Green with new Eco PC

This mini new greeny and earth friendly PC by DELL looks pretty sleek. It would be good if it was green but black is an alright color since the keyboard looks pretty sleek too. Its supposed to be 70% less energy-consuming and 81% smaller than a mini tower sized PC.

“I think it’s the right thing to do,” said Michael Dell. “These are important issues. When you think about our industry, we produce 260 million computers a year. There’s a responsibility that comes with that.”

Its noted that Dell said the company will invest more in technology to reduce its energy consumption and participate in programs such as efforts to plant more trees. In fact, Dell is expanding its “Plant a Tree for Me” program for private consumers to “Plant a Forest for Me,” for companies buying in bulk.

It comes in recycled and recyclable packaging, (duh) and lets hope it’s friendly to consumer pockets too.
